52nd Gramado Film Festival announces feature films in competition

The wait is over. On the morning of Tuesday, July 9th, the organization of the Gramado Film Festival announced some of the films that will make up the competitive screenings of its 52nd edition. Of the more than 1,000 titles registered, the curators and selection committees chose seven Brazilian Feature Films, five Gaucho Feature Films and 16 Gaucho Short Films.

Once again, diversity and originality permeate the selection. Among the Brazilian feature films, the seven productions will have a Brazilian premiere in Gramado. The list has a representation of the diversity of Brazilian audiovisual, bringing views from directors from the South, Southeast, Center-West and Northeast of the country. It is worth highlighting the plurality of genres, including drama, fiction, comedy and documentaries. The strength of the female gaze will also be present in Gramado. Of the seven Brazilian feature films in competition, four were directed by women.

The Brazilian Feature Films will be shown in person in Gramado, between the 10th and 16th of August, at the traditional Palácio dos Festivais. In total, 33 Kikitos and 11 Legislative Assembly trophies will be awarded, in addition to the traditional tributes with the Oscarito, Eduardo Abelin, Kikito de Cristal and Cidade de Gramado Trophies. In partnership with the State Secretariat for Culture (Sedac), through the State Institute of Cinema (Iecine), the Gramado Festival will also award three Iecine Awards and the Leonardo Machado Trophy, in addition to the Sirmar Antunes Trophy, in partnership with the Legislative Assembly.

During the meeting with journalists, the president of Gramadotur, Rosa Helena Volk, emphasized that the event will take place normally, in person, and that the city awaits the visit of those who like cinema to attend the festival: “It will be much more democratic, with more intense participation from everyone. We will once again hold a great festival, as Gramado deserves.”

Marcos Santuario, curator of the festival, highlighted the hard work he did alongside actor and director Caio Blat in selecting the films. “The quality of the films is great and this is nothing new for us. Film registrations for Gramado have demonstrated this pattern for several years now, attesting to the desire of great and new directors to present their films here, as the first screen in Brazil. This honors us, challenges us and also makes us happy to know how the festival remains important in the national cinematographic universe and ends up being the possibility of getting to know these powerful and talented directors with their new productions. Gramado is a festival where films are born, on their screens and their debates. And this year will be no different”, he highlighted.
